Jatrapur, July 31: In a major anti-narcotics breakthrough, police from Jatrapur Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Sitikanta Bardhan, seized approximately 14,000 Yaba tablets valued at over ₹1 crore during a raid in the Banshpukur area on Thursday.

The operation, carried out in the early hours, was a joint effort between Jatrapur Police and personnel from the Shalpukur Border Outpost (BOP) of the Border Security Force (BSF). Acting on specific intelligence, the team intercepted a suspicious vehicle believed to be used in cross-border drug smuggling activities.

During the raid, three individuals—identified as Ahmed, Nazrul Islam, and Jubeid—were detained on suspicion of involvement in the smuggling network. Authorities also seized the vehicle, which had no legal registration plate or proper documentation. Police said its origins and use in illegal activities are under further investigation, with the possibility of larger smuggling rackets being probed.

OC Bardhan, speaking about the operation, emphasized that the success was the result of coordinated efforts between local law enforcement and the BSF. “We will continue such operations as part of our unwavering commitment to building a drug-free Tripura,” he said.

The seizure is considered one of the largest in recent months and highlights the growing challenge posed by Yaba (methamphetamine) trafficking in border areas of the state. Officials noted that the incident underscores the need for enhanced coordination between agencies to tackle drug cartels operating along the India-Bangladesh border.

The detained suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, and further arrests are expected as the investigation expands. The police confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated and all seized contraband has been sent for forensic examination.
