Patna, March 30: Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, on Monday alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned from his post as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) under pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Reacting sharply to the development, the RJD leader said that while it is generally customary for a leader elected to another legislative body to step down from a previous post, Nitish Kumar’s resignation appears to be driven by compulsion rather than convention. “This is not merely a procedural decision. It has been taken under pressure, against Nitish Kumar’s own wishes. The BJP has deceived both him and the people of Bihar,” Yadav alleged.

He further claimed that his party had already warned voters during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections that a return of the NDA government would eventually lead to Nitish Kumar being sidelined. “Now it stands proven. The BJP will not allow him to continue as Chief Minister,” he said.

Launching a broader attack on the ruling alliance, Yadav accused the government of misleading the public with unfulfilled promises. He alleged that women were assured financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for livelihood support, but only Rs 10,000 was distributed during the election period. He also criticised claims regarding 125 units of free electricity, asserting that Bihar continues to face high power tariffs, which are now being further increased.

“This government is cheating the people of Bihar,” he said, while also flagging concerns over rising inflation. He pointed to increasing prices of essential commodities such as LPG, petrol, and diesel, alleging that fuel prices are artificially controlled during elections in states like West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, only to be raised later.

Yadav also expressed concern over the law and order situation in the state, claiming that incidents of crime, including shootings and murders, are occurring frequently. “People are not getting justice, while the BJP is only focused on consolidating power,” he remarked.

Taking an indirect swipe at Ashok Choudhary, he accused certain leaders of indulging in “drama politics” for public attention rather than addressing real issues. He also questioned the government’s response to recent hailstorms that damaged crops, asking whether affected farmers had received adequate compensation.

Highlighting political instability, Yadav said Bihar has lacked a stable government since 2012, which he believes hampers development and governance.

On national politics, he noted that the RJD is contesting three seats in alliance with the Left Democratic Front in Kerala and expressed confidence of returning to power there. He also predicted electoral setbacks for the BJP in both Kerala and West Bengal.
