On Saturday, a consumer rights awareness event was organized by the Consumer Club at Maharaja Bir Bikram University in Agartala. The event was focused on educating the public about consumer rights, especially in terms of product quality, quantity, purity, price, and value. Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of consumer rights and the government’s efforts to spread awareness about the Universal Consumer Protection Act.

Minister Chowdhury stated that the government is taking significant steps to ensure that ordinary people are not cheated when purchasing goods with their hard-earned money. He explained that awareness programs are being conducted in schools, colleges, and universities across the state to spread the message about consumer rights. These programs aim to educate the public on how they can seek legal remedies in cases of consumer grievances.

He also highlighted that many people are unaware of the legal services available for consumer rights issues. Through such awareness initiatives, the government intends to educate students and the general public about these services. Justice Arindam Lodh of the Tripura High Court was the chief guest at the event, where he gave a detailed talk on legal aspects related to consumer rights.

Sumit Lodh, Director of the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, was a special guest at the event. He provided information about various consumer services offered by the department and explained how consumers can file complaints in case they are cheated by vendors. The program was chaired by Professor Satyadeo Poddar, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University. Also attending were special guests Animesh Debbarma, Director of the Tripura Higher Education Department, and Dr. Sumanta Chakraborty, Registrar of MBB University, who welcomed the attendees.
