Bhubaneswar, May 2026: Odisha on Saturday commenced a statewide door-to-door survey as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, aimed at ensuring the accuracy and inclusiveness of the voter database across the state.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R.S. Gopalan announced that more than 45,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed to carry out the month-long exercise, which will continue until June 28. The survey will cover all 147 Assembly constituencies in Odisha and involve extensive verification of voter details at the grassroots level.

Addressing reporters in Bhubaneswar, Gopalan said the revision process is being undertaken to update the electoral rolls and ensure that all eligible citizens are included while maintaining the integrity of the voter list. He assured the public that no genuine voter would face any difficulty during the exercise and appealed to citizens to cooperate with BLOs during their visits.

“The Special Intensive Revision is a routine and important exercise to keep the electoral rolls accurate and up to date. All eligible citizens will be given adequate opportunity to verify their details and participate in the process,” he said.

To minimize the impact of the prevailing heatwave conditions in the state, the Election Department has made special arrangements for field-level operations. Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house visits during the cooler hours of the day, before 11 a.m. In addition, they will remain available at designated polling booths from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily to assist voters, verify records and address queries related to the revision process.

The CEO urged voters to provide accurate information and necessary documents, wherever required, to facilitate smooth verification and timely updating of electoral records.

As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the draft electoral roll will be published on July 5 after completion of the verification process. Citizens will then have an opportunity to review the draft list and submit claims or objections, if necessary.

Following the disposal of claims and corrections, the final electoral roll will be published on September 6.

Election officials said the exercise is a crucial step in strengthening the democratic process by ensuring that electoral rolls remain transparent, updated and representative of all eligible voters in the state.
