Agartala, 08 July 2026: Reinforcing its unwavering commitment to the welfare of veterans and their families, the Indian Army organised a Veterans’ Meet at Agartala Military Station on 08 July 2026. The event brought together more than 50 ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, Next of Kin (NoKs), officials associated with veterans’ welfare, and representatives from various military establishments in an effort to strengthen outreach and address issues affecting the veteran community.

The interaction was chaired by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 101 Area, who underscored the Army’s continued dedication to ensuring the well-being, dignity and rehabilitation of former soldiers and their dependents. The meet served as an important platform for direct interaction between Army authorities and veterans, enabling participants to raise concerns, seek guidance and obtain timely solutions on a range of welfare-related matters.

Discussions during the programme focused on several key issues impacting ex-servicemen and their families. These included improving access to healthcare services through the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), expanding employment opportunities for veterans within the State Government, and enhancing awareness regarding recruitment procedures and career guidance available under the Agniveer scheme. Officials also briefed participants on various welfare initiatives and support mechanisms available to veterans, Veer Naris and NoKs.

Addressing the gathering, the GOC reaffirmed that the Indian Army remains deeply committed to safeguarding the interests of ex-servicemen, disabled soldiers, Veer Naris and their families. He assured attendees that issues highlighted during the interaction would receive due attention and encouraged veterans to remain closely connected with the Army by actively engaging with welfare organisations and making full use of the schemes and facilities available to them.

The Veterans’ Meet also provided an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and offer suggestions for improving the delivery of welfare services. The interactive session fostered greater trust and strengthened communication between the Army and the veteran fraternity.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge to further strengthen the enduring bond between the Indian Army and its veterans. The initiative reflected the Army’s continued focus on recognising the invaluable service and sacrifices of its former soldiers while ensuring that they and their families receive sustained support, care and opportunities for a secure and dignified future.
