Agartala, July 10: A joint team comprising the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Border Security Force (BSF), Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Tripura Police seized around 570 kg of dry ganja and arrested one person during a raid at Surendranagar under Sidhai Police Station in West Tripura district.
The operation was conducted late on Wednesday night following specific intelligence inputs about the storage of contraband at a house in the area. During the search, the team recovered dry ganja concealed in 12 drums, which was subsequently taken to Sidhai Police Station for legal formalities.
Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ashish Dasgupta said approximately 570 kg of dry ganja was seized during the operation. One person was arrested from the spot on charges of involvement in the alleged narcotics trafficking network.
Police have not disclosed the identity of the accused, stating that the investigation is at a preliminary stage.
Officials said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected drug trafficking network and determine the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
The seizure forms part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive being conducted jointly by central and state agencies in Tripura to curb the illegal trade in narcotic substances. Further investigation is in progress.
