Agartala, August 17: In a push to position Tripura as an emerging innovation and entrepreneurship hub in the Northeast, the Directorate of Information Technology (DIT), in collaboration with Hyderabad-based T-Hub, organised the “Building a Unicorn in Tripura” workshop at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Monday.
The workshop aimed to inspire and equip emerging entrepreneurs to build high-growth and scalable ventures. A key highlight was the launch of the T-RISE (Tripura Registry & Integration for Startup Ecosystem) Portal, along with the exchange of strategic MoUs with industry partners.
IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy inaugurated the programme in the presence of IT and Finance Secretary Kiran Gitte, IT Director Jeya Ragul Geshan B, senior officials, industry leaders, investors, startup founders and representatives from academia.
Addressing the gathering, Singha Roy reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to building an innovation-led economy and encouraging young people to become entrepreneurs and job creators. He said Tripura was developing an enabling ecosystem through supportive policies, digital infrastructure and strategic partnerships to attract investment and generate employment.
Under the New Sector-Agnostic Tripura Startup Policy, more than 185 startup applications have been received, 140 registrations approved and 70 startups recognised. Financial assistance exceeding Rs 2.72 crore has been provided through the Tri-Seed Fund, Proof of Concept support and operational assistance.
DIT has also established T-NEST, the state-level incubation centre at the International Business Centre in Hapania, while partnering with T-Hub as a knowledge partner.
The newly launched T-RISE Portal will operate as an integrated single-window platform connecting startups with incubators, mentors, investors, academic institutions, corporates and government departments. It includes a network of over 20 mentors, 10 investors and 10 corporates.
MoUs were exchanged with HDFC Bank, Amazon Seller Services and Zoho Corporation to provide startups with access to financial services, e-commerce opportunities, digital solutions, cloud technologies and mentorship.
The programme also featured mentoring sessions by T-Hub experts on fundraising, scaling and market expansion, besides an interaction with Tejaswi Bhagavatula, Vice President of Skyroot Aerospace.
According to an official release, the initiatives are expected to attract investment, create high-value employment and strengthen Tripura’s position as an emerging startup and innovation destination in eastern India.
