Agartala, April 6. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the country is moving forward rapidly under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the state government is also working for the welfare of the people under the guidance of the Prime Minister.

He also criticised the previous government, stating that the earlier governments were only immersed in corruption.

Dr. Saha said this while addressing a gathering organized by Town Baradowali Mandal on Sunday.

On this day, 857 voters from 283 families from different wards of Town Bordowali Mandal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in presence of Dr Saha.

Dr. Saha said in the meeting that today is a memorable day, as the Bharatiya Janata Party is celebrating its foundation day.

“On October 21, 1951, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh was formed through the efforts of our predecessor Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Later, with the help of Bharat Ratna and then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Bharatiya Janata Party was established on this day in 1980. Four years later, in the 1984 parliamentary elections, we secured only two seats,” he said.

Dr. Saha added that there is now Bharatiya Janata Party government in most of the states and union territories of the country.

“Today, I welcome those who have left different parties to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. You have taken the right decision at the right time,” he said.

During his address, the Chief Minister stated that people all over the world are now witnessing the direction in which India is heading.

“The way our respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking the country forward and making bold decisions, no other Prime Minister or Head of Government has taken such significant decisions. A few days ago, a big decision was taken regarding the Waqf Board. People from minority communities are also happy with this. During the Congress and UPA governments, laws were made for the personal interests of a few people. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, it was amended to benefit the poor. Those who had long enjoyed Waqf Board land have now been stopped. The Prime Minister also made a strong decision on triple talaq,” he said.

The Chief Minister further stated that the present state government is working transparently for the people, following the guidelines of the Prime Minister.

“During the 35-year-long Left rule in the state, crimes such as murder, terrorism, arson, rape, etc., were rampant. Now, a peaceful environment has replaced that. The current state government is focusing on development, giving priority to education, health, agriculture, sports, and other sectors,” he added.

The joining programme was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Sadar Urban District president Ashim Bhattacharjee, Bardowali Mandal In-charge Subrata Chakraborty, Mandal President Shyamal Kumar Deb, and others.
