New Delhi, May 10 – The G7 nations have strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam and urged India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint amid rising military tensions. The appeal comes in the wake of alleged cross-border missile strikes and drone sightings along the India-Pakistan border.

In a joint statement, the Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and the EU’s High Representative expressed deep concern over regional stability and civilian safety. “We call for immediate de-escalation and encourage direct dialogue between the two countries,” the statement said, emphasizing a peaceful and diplomatic resolution.

The G7 also reaffirmed its support for monitoring the situation closely, as Canada prepares to host the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, from June 15 to 17.

On the ground, tensions remain high. India’s Ministry of Defence reported drone sightings at 26 locations along the International Border and Line of Control, including key areas such as Baramulla, Jammu, Pathankot, and Jaisalmer. Alarmingly, one armed drone attack in Ferozpur injured several civilians. Security forces responded swiftly, sanitizing the area and providing medical assistance to the victims.

In response to these threats, the Indian armed forces are on high alert, employing counter-drone systems and maintaining surveillance. Citizens in border regions have been advised to stay indoors and follow safety protocols.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, and military chiefs on Friday, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the government’s focus on national security and civilian protection.
