Agartala, May 23: Former Tripura Chief Minister and current Member of Parliament from West Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb, has strongly criticized the Left parties—including the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist)—for condemning the recent security operation in Chhattisgarh that led to the killing of 27 Maoists, including their General Secretary Keshav Rao.

In a video statement, Deb accused the Left parties of openly sympathizing with Left-wing extremism and questioned whether such political outfits should be allowed to function in a democratic setup. “By opposing a successful anti-Maoist operation, the Communist parties have exposed their true colours. This isn’t just unfortunate—it reveals a deeply anti-national mindset,” he said.

Deb further alleged that the communists have historically supported Maoist ideology, aligning with elements that endanger India’s sovereignty and internal security. “We’ve always maintained that their ideology is anti-state, anti-society, and anti-system. Their latest position only strengthens that claim,” he remarked.

Recalling past incidents, Deb accused Left leaders of opposing Operation Sindoor in West Bengal and allegedly echoing sentiments favorable to Pakistan. “They speak the language of China and Pakistan while living in India. Such parties have no place in a democracy,” he asserted.

The BJP MP also slammed what he termed “white-collar political patronage to extremism,” warning the public—especially the youth—against being misled. “Behind their political mask lies a dangerous alliance with forces of violence and instability,” he cautioned.

Urging the Election Commission to review the status of such parties, Deb questioned whether they should retain the right to contest elections. “They have lost both the moral and constitutional right to seek votes from the people,” he concluded.

It is noteworthy that the Left parties had denounced the Chhattisgarh operation and advocated for peace talks instead of military action.
