Dharmanagar, May 28: BJP MLA Subal Bhowmik held a press conference in Dharmanagar on Wednesday, expressing serious concerns over rising terrorism-related activities in Tripura and launched a scathing attack on the opposition CPIM for what he called its “indirect encouragement” of extremist elements.
Addressing the media, Bhowmik said that certain recent incidents in the state, particularly in the hilly and border areas, point towards a resurgence of separatist elements that had once destabilized Tripura. He alleged that the CPIM, during its prolonged rule in the state, failed to counter insurgency and even allowed an atmosphere where extremist groups could thrive.
Bhowmik accused the Left party of now attempting to politicize the issue of terrorism for electoral gains, rather than cooperating with the government in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
“The people of Tripura have suffered enough under the CPIM’s misrule. Their silence on current threats raises suspicion. This is a time to act unitedly against terrorism, but they are choosing to play politics instead,” he said.
The MLA further stated that the current government under Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is committed to eradicating all forms of terrorism from the state and is working in close coordination with central agencies to ensure security. He called upon the people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
Bhowmik also urged civil society groups and youth organizations to come forward and play a proactive role in maintaining communal harmony and rejecting divisive ideologies.
The press conference comes amid heightened tensions in some parts of Tripura following intelligence reports about possible regrouping attempts by banned outfits.
