Agartala, May 31: In a significant crackdown on a local theft racket, West Tripura police recovered eight stolen motorcycles and several other items from the residence of one Ratan Das during a raid at RK Nagar on Friday. The principal accused, however, managed to flee before the raid, officials said.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (West Tripura) Dr. Kiran Kumar K. said the recovery was made following an investigation into a motorcycle theft reported at the Bodhjungnagar police station on April 3.
“During the investigation, the name of Sentu Das (18) came up. He was apprehended, and during interrogation, he revealed the involvement of Ratan Das, who appears to be a central figure in a local network of thieves. Ratan is accused of harboring criminals and storing stolen goods in his warehouse,” Dr. Kumar said.
Based on this intel, police launched a raid at Ratan Das’s residence in RK Nagar. Although Ratan managed to escape, the police seized eight stolen motorcycles along with various other stolen items from the premises. The estimated value of the recovered goods is believed to be around ₹7 to ₹8 lakh.
“Efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest Ratan Das. We suspect he may be involved in more thefts and possibly operating a larger theft network in the area,” the SP added.
Police have intensified search operations in nearby areas and are also probing whether other individuals are involved. Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity and assured strict action against those aiding criminal activities.
The recovery marks a notable success for Bodhjungnagar police in their ongoing efforts to curb property crimes in the region.
