Agartala: June 9 — In an effort to reduce the burden of electricity bills and promote clean energy, a seminar on the *PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana* was held on Sunday at the Kanchanpur Town Hall in North Tripura district. The event aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of solar energy and encourage households to adopt rooftop solar panel systems through government subsidies and bank loans.

The seminar was attended by several dignitaries, including Ajanta Choudhury, BSC Chairman of Laljuri RD Block, and social worker Gautam Chandra Roy. TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu was present, along with senior officials Gopesh Ghosh, Seema Das, Sajal Debbarma, and George Jamatia.

Officials explained that under the *PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana*, households can install rooftop solar systems with substantial financial support. The scheme offers up to 300 units of free electricity per month, subsidies of up to ₹85,800, easy bank loan options with EMIs, and the opportunity to sell surplus power back to the grid—ultimately leading to minimal monthly electricity bills and long-term savings.

During the seminar, the environmental advantages and cost-effectiveness of switching to solar power were strongly emphasized. In a symbolic gesture promoting energy efficiency, an electronic stove was handed over to one woman, while two others received LED bulbs.

Addressing the gathering, TSECL MD Biswajit Basu stressed the urgency of shifting to renewable energy. “With rising global fuel shortages, electricity generation is becoming increasingly expensive. Household solar projects are not just beneficial—they are essential for future energy security,” he said.

The event concluded with a strong appeal for public participation, encouraging more families to register under the scheme and embrace sustainable, affordable energy solutions.
