Agartala, June 09: Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to empowering farmers through modern technology and increased awareness of agricultural schemes under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan.

Addressing a gathering on the 9th day of the campaign at the historic Old Town Hall in Sabroom, South Tripura district, the minister said the nationwide initiative, launched on May 29, aims to bridge the knowledge gap among farmers regarding both state and central government welfare schemes.

“In Tripura, we have already reached out to 1.20 lakh farmers, excluding today’s turnout. Our target is to engage with 1.70 lakh farmers, and we are confident of surpassing it,” Nath said, lauding the overwhelming response to the campaign. “Just today, 72 awareness meetings were conducted across the state.

In total, 864 meetings are scheduled to be held under this ambitious programme.”

The minister emphasized the dual objective of the campaign — to equip farmers with cutting-edge agricultural technology and to provide them with training and support to improve productivity. He noted that many farmers remain unaware of key government initiatives designed for their benefit.

“Through the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Yatra, we are ensuring that farmers can make informed decisions, access subsidies, and adopt best practices. This will ultimately lead to higher yields and better income. No such extensive campaign has ever been undertaken before,” he added.

Highlighting the scientific approach being taken, Nath also mentioned that soil health testing is being carried out across the state as part of the campaign.

“By understanding the condition of their soil, farmers can make precise decisions about crop patterns and fertilizer use, thereby enhancing overall agricultural output.”

The campaign will continue till June 12, covering every corner of the state and bringing critical resources and information to the grassroots level.
