Agartala, Aug 26: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that a mass movement should be created to fight against drugs and that the current government is working for the people and their welfare.

He said that through blood donation, in addition to saving lives, the message of mutual cooperation, responsibility, and unity can also be conveyed to society.

Dr. Saha said this while participating in two separate Ganesh Puja and voluntary blood donation programs in Agartala today.

On the day, the Chief Minister first attended a programme organized by the Bighnaharta Samajik Sanstha in the IGM Chaumuhani area.

At the event, Dr. Saha extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the people of Tripura on the occasion of Ganesh Puja.

“Today Ganesh Puja is being celebrated with due dignity at various places across the state. God can be found only through the service of people. We, who believe in Sanatan Dharma, all know that any event or worship is not possible without first worshiping Ganesh. Even if we embark on any journey, we must first worship Lord Ganesh,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that since the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government was established in Tripura, an atmosphere of devotion has been created throughout the state.

“We are all coming together around pujas. Now, the number of pujas has increased a lot in the state, which we did not see before. Keeping the spirit of puja in mind, blood donation has been organized here today. There is no greater donation than blood donation. About 15 percent of the population has negative blood. Patients need blood for surgeries, cesarean deliveries, road accidents, and various other cases. In this regard, doctors benefit if there is adequate blood stock in blood banks. Therefore, there is a need to build a mass movement for blood donation,” Dr. Saha said.

He further stated that there is no greater puja than human service.

“Our government is also working for the people and for their welfare. Politics will remain in its own place,” he added.

The Chief Minister also said that the current government is committed to fighting against drugs.

“Young men and women are getting involved in drugs. Therefore, a mass movement against drugs should be created. Taking drugs through syringes often leads to HIV infection, and AIDS can also occur as a result. People should be more aware and cautious in this regard. If necessary, discussions should be held in their respective areas and surveillance should be maintained,” said Dr. Saha.

The Chief Minister stressed that social organizations should work for the people.

“Only then will the true meaning of the term ‘social organization’ be upheld. A person should contribute something to society during his lifetime. Only then will people remember him,” he said.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Bharatiya Janata Party Vice President Papiya Dutta, 8-Baradowali Mandal President Shyamal Kumar Deb, Central Zone Chairman of the Municipal Corporation Ratna Dutta, South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallick, and other prominent persons were present at the program.
