Agartala, September 2: Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu graced the valedictory session of the two-day Panchayat Raj Capacity-Building and Training Programme on Effective Local Governance at the State Panchayat Resource Training Centre in Agartala this evening. The programme, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from elected representatives and officials, was aimed at strengthening the functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and enhancing grassroots-level governance.

Speaking at the session, Governor Nallu underscored the vital role that Panchayati Raj Institutions play in ensuring people-centric development and effective delivery of government schemes. He said that local bodies serve as the foundation of democracy and directly connect the administration with citizens. “For the progress of villages and rural communities, Panchayats must function transparently, responsibly, and efficiently,” he remarked.

The Governor highlighted that capacity-building and training initiatives equip elected representatives with the knowledge and skills required to discharge their duties effectively. He urged Panchayat members to remain committed to the principles of accountability and participatory governance while working for the welfare of people at the grassroots. “Development cannot be sustainable unless it is inclusive. Panchayati Raj leaders have the responsibility to ensure that the benefits of government initiatives reach every household, especially marginalized sections,” he added.

Governor Nallu also emphasized the importance of adopting modern technology and digital tools in Panchayat administration to improve service delivery, transparency, and grievance redressal. He lauded the efforts of the State Panchayat Resource Training Centre for organizing such a meaningful programme and called for more such initiatives in the future.

During the two-day programme, participants engaged in discussions, technical sessions, and interactive modules on subjects like decentralized planning, financial management, rural development schemes, and community participation. Experts and resource persons provided insights into best practices that could be adopted to make local governance more effective.

The valedictory session concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants and a vote of thanks from the organizers. The programme was widely appreciated as an important step towards building stronger Panchayati Raj Institutions in Tripura, thereby contributing to the vision of self-reliant villages and inclusive rural development.
