Agartala, Sep 8 — Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday reiterated the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development and social welfare, as he virtually inaugurated 14 projects and laid the foundation stone for five others at a programme in Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala.

The projects, worth nearly ₹61 crore, included nine Anganwadi Centres in Jirania and Mohanpur subdivisions, along with foundation-laying for five 100-bedded Working Women’s Hostels at Abhoynagar, AD Nagar, Bodhjungnagar, Sabroom, and Belonia, and a 50-bedded Boys’ Hostel under DIET.

Highlighting recent initiatives, Dr. Saha said financial approval has been received to establish two new One Stop Centres in Kailashahar and Agartala. The Social Welfare and Social Education Department is also providing ₹2,000 monthly pensions to 14,575 Divyangjans.

Under Poshan Abhiyan, 11,130 smartphones with the Poshan Tracker App have been distributed to Anganwadi workers at a cost of ₹12.89 crore, funded by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Dr. Saha noted that Tripura ranks fifth nationally and first among northeastern states in preparing a roadmap aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. As part of this, 10 new Working Women’s Hostels will be built, featuring gyms, recreation centres, sports courts, security, and childcare facilities.

He further informed that since April 2023, 46 Anganwadi Centres have been set up under the DONER Ministry’s North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme. An ‘After Care Home’ for young women aged 18–21 is also being established under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

Dr. Saha revealed that in 2025 (up to August), projects worth over ₹800 crore have already been launched. Welfare initiatives include rehabilitation grants, child sponsorship, disability identity cards, and large-scale Anganwadi recruitments.

Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy and senior officials were present at the event.
