Agartala, Nov 13 — In an inspiring story of community compassion and medical success, seven-year-old Lima Debnath from Srinagar in South Tripura has made a complete recovery following a successful brain tumour surgery performed at GBP Hospital, Agartala, by renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Reddy.
After two months of intensive treatment, Lima was discharged on Wednesday and returned home with her parents. Former MLA Shankar Roy personally drove the family from Agartala to their residence in Srinagar, marking a heartwarming conclusion to the young girl’s medical journey.
A Class I student of Krishnanagar SB Balika Vidyalaya, Lima was diagnosed with a brain tumour in February this year. Her father, Gouranga Debnath, a daily wage labourer, and mother, Laxmi Rani Debnath, a homemaker, were initially unable to afford the surgery, estimated at around ₹8 lakh.
The family’s plight came to public attention when Prasanjit Malla, Lima’s English teacher, raised the issue. Journalists Tapan Roy and Prasanjit Baidya later highlighted her story, sparking a wave of solidarity across the state. Media reports and social media campaigns prompted widespread donations from individuals, schools, and organisations.
Several notable figures, including former MLA Shankar Roy, Leader of the Opposition and Sabroom MLA Jitendra Chaudhury, and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, extended both moral and financial support. Contributions also poured in from community members such as headmaster Gautam Debnath, Somnath Chakraborty, Soukat Choudhury, Subrata Debnath, Anamika Das, and institutions like PM SHRI Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Sabroom’s Bindas Boys Club, and Krishnanagar SB Balika Vidyalaya.
Lima’s full recovery has brought immense relief to her parents and joy to everyone who supported her. Her case stands as a testament to the power of collective kindness and timely medical intervention.
