Agartala: In a move to strengthen cooperation between Tripura and the UAE in the areas of organic agriculture, trade expansion, Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today shared the inspiring story of the Tripura Organic Mission at Dubai.

The Minister visited the Middle East Natural & Organic Products Expo (MENOPE) 2025, held from 17th to 19th November at the Dubai World Trade Centre, UAE.

The global event brought together leading organic producers, buyers, investors, technology providers, and government representatives from across continents, offering an exceptional platform for showcasing Tripura’s organic potential before the international community.

Tripura’s participation received overwhelming attention at MENOPE 2025.

Several of the state’s flagship organic products particularly the GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, the aromatic rice varieties Kalikhasa and Harinarayan, Bird’s Eye Chilli, Gandharaj (scented) Lemon, White Sesame, and Foxtail Millet earned widespread appreciation from international visitors for their quality, flavour profiles, and export readiness.

Buyers, importers, and global retail chains from the GCC region, Europe, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia showed strong interest in sourcing these products and exploring long-term partnerships with Tripura.

Later, the Minister said that at this distinguished gathering a global hub of trade, innovation, and partnership he stood before them to share the inspiring story of the Tripura Organic Mission.

“Under the visionary leadership of our Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Tripura has emerged as one of the most progressive organic farming states in the country. Today, we proudly have 26,400 hectares of land under certified organic farming, engaging over 26,800 dedicated farmers who have transitioned from conventional to sustainable cultivation practices to empower these farmers and ensure strong value chains,” said the Agriculture Minister.

He informed that fifty-three organic farmers’ producers’ companies (FPCs) have been formed across the state.

“These FPCs serve as the bridge between our farms and the global marketplace, enabling aggregation, processing, branding, and direct marketing of certified organic produce. Our Queen Pineapple, a Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged fruit, is world-famous. It is our signature export product, with a natural sweetness of 16 to 20 Brix. It is perfect for table and dessert consumption, while another variety, Kew, with 10 to 13 Brix, is ideal for processing and canning industries,” said the Minister.

The Minister in his speech also mentioned the scented lemon, locally known as Gandharaj.

“Tripura also produces the aromatic paddy, Kali Khasa variety, famous for its natural aroma and grain quality. Alongside it, our sticky rice, locally called the brown variety, and black rice, mainly Hangar, have gained recognition for their unique culinary properties and health benefits. Notably, black rice is rich in antioxidants and has a low glycemic index, making it a superfood suitable for the growing global demand for health-oriented products. Our organic cultivation further includes ginger, turmeric, Bird’s Eye Chilli, sesame, and foxtail millet. These products have strong export potential, especially in Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, where demand for clean, tasty, and chemical-free food is growing exponentially”, said Minister.

“The Indian organic food market is growing at an annual rate of 15–20%, driven by rising consumer awareness and health-conscious lifestyles. With its biodiversity,

traditional knowledge, and strong government support, India is poised to become a global leader in organic exports,” he said.

He also highlighted Tripura’s agarwood, agar perfume, agar oil, and bamboo shoots, which are abundantly available in the state.

“This is the essence of nature. As we move forward, we invite global investors, importers, and partners to come forward to join hands with us—to explore, invest, and grow with Tripura Organic.”

In all interactions, the Minister extended a cordial invitation to global buyers and investors to attend the upcoming Organic Buyer–Seller Meet in January 2026 in Tripura and encouraged them to explore investment opportunities in the state’s rapidly growing organic sector.

Mission Director of Tripura Organic Mission, Rajib Deb Barma, accompanied the Minister.
