The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) strongly condemns the shocking and brutal attack on a peaceful joint procession of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) in Tripura. The assault, allegedly carried out by BJP-backed miscreants, marks a disturbing attempt to silence democratic voices and intimidate those fighting for the rights of farmers and workers.
The rally, organised to highlight pressing issues affecting peasants and labourers, was proceeding peacefully in Dharamanagar, North Tripura district, when it was suddenly targeted. The attack was not random but clearly aimed at the leadership of the movement. Senior leaders, including Comrade Ratan Roy, state executive member of AIKS, and Amitava Dutta, Vice President of CITU Tripura, were violently assaulted along with seven other participants. Many suffered injuries, reflecting the severity of the assault and the impunity with which the perpetrators operated.
AIKS has asserted that such politically motivated violence represents an alarming erosion of democratic norms in the state. Attempts to suppress the united voice of workers and peasants will only strengthen their resolve to continue their struggle for justice, rights, and dignity.
The organisation has demanded that Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha take swift and uncompromising action against those responsible for orchestrating the attack. Ensuring accountability is not only essential for justice but also crucial to safeguarding the democratic space for peaceful protests in the state.
AIKS has called upon all democratic forces to condemn this attack and stand in solidarity with the affected farmers and workers. The incident, the organisation emphasises, must serve as a wake-up call against rising political intimidation and violence targeting grassroots movements across the region.
