A woman drug peddler was arrested on Thursday during a police operation near the Teliamura Railway Station in Khowai district, Tripura. The arrest has triggered widespread sensation in the locality, as the accused is a housewife from Khayerpur in West Tripura district.

According to Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura Police Station, Jayanta Dey, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal narcotics movement in the railway station vicinity. Acting swiftly on the information, a special police team conducted surveillance in the area and intercepted the woman on suspicion.

During a thorough search of her bag, police recovered four soap cases containing brown sugar. Preliminary assessment indicates that the contraband is valued at approximately ₹7 lakh in the illegal market. OC Dey said the woman was immediately taken into custody and the seized substances were secured as evidence following all legal procedures.

Police sources stated that the accused was likely attempting to transport the narcotics to another location when she was caught. Her exact role in the drug network, possible associates, and the source of procurement are now key points of investigation. The officer confirmed that an NDPS case will be registered, and further interrogation will be carried out to uncover the wider nexus involved in the trafficking.

Residents of the area expressed shock that a housewife was allegedly engaged in such illegal activities, especially in a busy public space like the railway station. The arrest has once again highlighted concerns regarding the growing drug menace in parts of Tripura and the increasing involvement of individuals from diverse backgrounds in narcotics smuggling.

Police have intensified vigilance in vulnerable transit points, including railway routes, to curb the movement of illegal substances. The investigation into the case is continuing, and more arrests are not being ruled out at this stage.
