Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited Ramnagar on Monday to pay his respects to Saptarshi Das, a 23-year-old medical intern whose life was tragically cut short in a road accident on the Delhi–Lucknow national highway on the night of December 3. The chief minister met the grieving family, offered heartfelt condolences, and stood beside relatives, friends, and neighbours as they bid their final farewell to the young doctor.

Saptarshi, along with his friends Arnav Chakraborty, Ayush Sharma, and Shrestha Pancholi, died when their car overturned after crashing at high speed into a stationary truck. The accident ended Saptarshi’s promising journey in medicine—he had only three months left to complete his MBBS internship at Venkateshwar Medical University, Lucknow.

The family’s tragedy was deepened by severe flight disruptions across the country, which delayed the transportation of Saptarshi’s mortal remains from Delhi to Agartala. Although the body was handed over to the family after the autopsy, repeated cancellations of IndiGo flights forced them into a distressing cycle of returning the body to the mortuary, arranging hotel accommodations, and attempting new bookings each day.

His mother, Arpita Deb Sarkar, recounted the emotional turmoil of being assured of confirmed flights only to face abrupt cancellations, leaving the family oscillating between the mortuary, airport, and hotel for three agonizing days. At last, on Monday, Saptarshi’s remains reached Agartala MBB Airport and were taken to the family home in Ramnagar.

Chief Minister Saha’s visit highlighted the profound grief shared by the entire community. As neighbours, friends, and relatives gathered in sorrow, his words of condolence brought some comfort to the heartbroken family. Saptarshi’s dedication to his medical career and his untimely passing left an enduring impact on everyone who knew him, marking a tragic loss for the state.
