Imphal, December 12:
President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting every affected family in Manipur, stating that addressing the concerns of the people remains the government’s top priority. She was speaking at a civic reception organised in her honour by the Manipur government at the City Convention Centre during her maiden two-day visit to the state.

Acknowledging that Manipur has endured “unfortunate violence for several months,” the President said the Centre is fully aware of the hardships faced by the people. She emphasised the government’s resolve to strengthen harmony, enhance security, and accelerate development across the state.

Highlighting ongoing efforts, President Murmu noted that the government has launched a series of projects aimed at boosting connectivity, healthcare, education, rural development, and infrastructure—initiatives that have already brought visible improvements. During the ceremony, she laid foundation stones of 14 projects worth ₹1,180 crore and inaugurated 12 projects worth ₹207 crore. These initiatives span key sectors including sports, tribal development, agriculture, renewable energy, community infrastructure, Ima markets, handloom and handicrafts, and urban development.

“These new projects will boost tribal development, generate employment and help build a modern, inclusive Manipur,” she said, adding that the state remains a land of resilience, cultural richness, and national pride.

President Murmu praised Manipur’s contributions to sports, the armed forces, art, culture, and public service, and highlighted its key role as India’s gateway to South-East Asia. Recalling the historic Nupi Lal movements, she hailed the courage of Manipuri women, saying their legacy continues to inspire the nation.

Expressing confidence in the people of the valley and hills, she said renewed unity would guide Manipur toward prosperity and happiness. “We must build a state where every child feels safe, every woman empowered, every community included,” she urged.

Earlier, the President witnessed a polo exhibition match at the historic Imphal Polo Ground. She was received at Bir Tikendrajit Airport with full state honours as security was heightened across Imphal and Senapati. The Kuki-Zo Council welcomed her visit.

On Friday, she will visit the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex and later address a public meeting in Senapati district while inaugurating additional development projects.
