Agartala:
In a significant move to strengthen employment and livelihood opportunities in Tripura, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Forvis Mazars LLP to undertake a comprehensive Skill Gap Study across the state. The initiative aims to identify gaps between existing skills and market demand, with a special focus on rural and tribal populations.

Officials said the study will place particular emphasis on the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) regions, where access to structured skill development and employment opportunities remains limited. By mapping employable skills among rural youth and assessing sector-wise demand, the study is expected to provide a strong data-driven foundation for future training and placement programmes.

The findings of the Skill Gap Study will be used to roll out targeted skill development initiatives under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0. This flagship programme focuses on skilling rural youth from economically weaker and disadvantaged backgrounds and linking them to sustainable wage employment in both local and national markets.

The initiative has received a major financial boost, with ₹23 crore sanctioned to TRLM in December 2025 under DDU-GKY 2.0. The funds will be utilised for skill training, capacity building and placement of candidates across a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, services and emerging industries. Officials believe this will significantly enhance livelihood security and help address unemployment in rural Tripura.

By partnering with Forvis Mazars LLP, TRLM aims to leverage professional expertise in labour market analysis, workforce planning and skill ecosystem development. The study will assess current employment trends, identify growth sectors and help design training modules aligned with industry requirements.

Officials said the project is expected to benefit thousands of rural youths, particularly from tribal areas, by opening pathways to meaningful employment and long-term economic stability. The Skill Gap Study is being seen as a crucial step in Tripura’s broader strategy to empower its rural workforce and prepare young people to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving economy.
