New Delhi, Jan 25: On the eve of Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, celebrating the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in India’s Constitution. She described the Constitution as the foundational document of the world’s largest republic and emphasized that since 26th January 1950, India has been advancing towards its constitutional ideals.
The President praised the Armed Forces for their valour during Operation Sindoor last year. “Precision strikes were carried out against terror infrastructure, many terrorists were neutralised, and our self-reliance in defence powered this historic success,” she said.
Turning to economic achievements, Murmu highlighted India as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. Despite global uncertainties, the country continues to record growth and is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy. She also lauded the government’s flagship welfare schemes for poverty alleviation, free ration, housing, and financial inclusion under initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, noting that over 56% of the 57 crore bank accounts opened belong to women.
Emphasizing women’s empowerment, the President cited initiatives such as ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and praised women’s increasing participation in education, health, and the economy. She also acknowledged the contributions of farmers, sanitation workers, scientists, doctors, military, police, businessmen, and youth to national development.
Murmu highlighted digital payments, start-ups, labour reforms, GST improvements, infrastructure investment, and Swadeshi initiatives as key drivers of India’s growth. She urged citizens to support the government’s vision for a “Viksit Bharat,” stating that societal participation amplifies development efforts.
On the environment, she underscored India’s leadership in global environmental initiatives. Reflecting on the nation’s journey, the President called for harmony, invoking Sree Narayana Guru’s ideals of fraternity free from discrimination, and reaffirmed that youth, women, and citizens collectively will shape India’s future.
