Agartala: Nov 14: Before 2018, the cooperative societies in the state had fallen into disarray. However, after the current government came to power, steps were taken to revive these societies, leading to a remarkable turnaround. Today, the cooperative societies in the state are thriving and making profits. Currently, there are 4,205 cooperative societies operating in the state.
On Thursday, during the 71st Akhil Bharatiya Cooperative Week-2024, a state-level discussion was held at the Agartala Town Hall. Speaking at the event, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy emphasized the central theme of this year’s celebration: “The Role of Cooperatives in Building a Developed India.” He recalled that after India gained independence, many believed that to strengthen the country, rural areas needed to be empowered first. Despite several governments in the past, this crucial focus was largely neglected. The current government, however, has been prioritizing the strengthening of the rural economic system for the past decade.
Other notable attendees at the event included Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, and other dignitaries. The discussion highlighted the significant role cooperatives play in rural development and economic growth, underscoring the importance of fostering a robust cooperative sector for India’s progress.
