Agartala, Nov 2: The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) Tripura State Committee has announced a statewide protest from mid-November against the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, accusing them of neglecting farmers and failing to provide essential assistance during the ongoing cultivation season.

The decision was finalized at a recent state committee meeting attended by representatives from all eight districts, AIKS State Secretary Pabitra Kar informed during a press conference held at Krishak Bhavan on Saturday.

Kar said reports from across the districts revealed severe distress among farmers due to the shortage of vital agricultural inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation facilities. “This is the peak season for vegetable cultivation, yet farmers are not receiving the necessary support. Both the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments appear to be in deep slumber,” he said.

Drawing a comparison with the previous Left Front regime, Kar claimed that essential inputs and irrigation support were readily available earlier. “Under the current government, such support has become a distant dream,” he added.

AIKS announced that from November 15 onward, protest demonstrations will be held in front of agriculture department offices in various districts to press for farmers’ demands and expose administrative apathy.

Responding to media reports alleging that Kisan Sabha activists were chased away from Bhagalpur village under Mohanpur subdivision, Kar dismissed them as baseless. “No such incident occurred. We carried out our membership campaign peacefully and interacted with locals before departing,” he clarified.

However, he noted that sugarcane farmers in Bhagalpur are facing severe hardships due to inadequate supply of seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation support, resulting in poor yields.

Kar also informed that AIKS has launched a massive membership drive from November 1 to 10, with over 5,000 new members joining on the first day alone. The campaign will also document farmers’ grievances at the grassroots level across Tripura.
