Agartala, December 12:
In a major push to strengthen waste management and enhance urban cleanliness, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Thursday flagged off a fleet of seven auto hopper tippers and three sets of mini super suckers at the Agartala City Centre premises. The newly inducted vehicles are expected to significantly improve the city’s sanitation infrastructure.
The launch event was attended by Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, AMC Commissioner DK Chakma, Zonal Chairpersons, Corporators, and senior AMC officials, reflecting a unified effort to elevate hygiene standards across Agartala.
Addressing the media, Mayor Majumder stated that the primary objective behind introducing this modern machinery is to ensure better cleanliness and efficient waste disposal in AMC-administered areas. He explained that the seven auto hopper tippers would be designated for collecting waste from hotels, restaurants, and fast-food outlets, helping streamline garbage management in commercial zones.
Additionally, the three mini super suckers will play a crucial role in de-siltation activities, particularly in covered stormwater channels and drains located in narrow lanes. Their deployment is expected to facilitate smoother water flow, prevent clogging, and reduce the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season.
The Mayor noted that the addition of these vehicles reflects AMC’s proactive approach to modernizing its sanitation mechanisms and addressing the growing urban challenges of waste disposal and drainage maintenance. “With this new fleet, the Corporation aims to raise the standards of cleanliness and public hygiene in Agartala,” Majumder said.
He added that AMC will continue investing in advanced sanitation solutions and infrastructure upgrades to ensure a cleaner, healthier environment for residents. The initiative marks another step in the city’s ongoing efforts to build a robust and sustainable sanitation ecosystem.
