Agartala, January 15:
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived in Agartala on Thursday evening on a short visit to Tripura, during which he is scheduled to offer prayers at the revered Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur of Gomati district.

Dr Sarma landed at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport at around 5 pm, where he was warmly received by Tripura BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, state ministers Sushanta Chowdhury and other senior party leaders, including BJP state secretary Devid Debbarma.

Following his arrival, the Assam Chief Minister proceeded to his hotel in Agartala. Later, he is scheduled to travel to Udaipur to visit the historic Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas in Hinduism, where he will perform special prayers. The temple, dedicated to Goddess Tripura Sundari, is among the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Northeast and attracts devotees from across the country.

In view of the high-profile visit, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across Agartala and Udaipur. Senior police officials are overseeing the security measures to ensure the smooth conduct of Dr Sarma’s visit and to maintain law and order during his movement, particularly around the temple premises.

During his stay, Dr Sarma is also likely to meet Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and hold interactions with senior BJP leaders in the state. Although no official political programme has been announced, the visit is being seen as significant in the context of regional coordination among BJP-ruled states in the Northeast.

According to official sources, the Assam Chief Minister is scheduled to depart from Agartala on January 16 at around 10 am, concluding his brief visit to the state.

Dr Sarma’s visit has drawn attention among party workers and devotees alike, with many viewing it as both a spiritual and political engagement in Tripura.
