BJP MP from West Tripura and the party’s in-charge for West Bengal, Biplab Kumar Deb, on Friday asserted that all illegal syndicates operating in the state would be dismantled within seven days if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes to power. He made the remarks while addressing a public meeting at the Jalpaiguri Sadar Assembly constituency.
Speaking to party workers and supporters, Deb said West Bengal is rich in natural and economic resources, but development has been hampered due to the grip of syndicates controlling various sectors. “West Bengal has everything. The resources are available in abundance. The only problem is that syndicates are controlling all these resources,” he said. According to him, revenue generated from these resources fails to reach the state exchequer as it is allegedly siphoned off by what he described as “unconstitutional elements.”
Deb claimed that money meant for public welfare and development is being diverted, preventing it from being reflected in the state budget. “If these unconstitutional set-ups are wiped out, development will automatically follow,” he asserted, adding that the BJP is committed to restoring transparency and accountability in governance.
The former Tripura chief minister described Bengal as a land of prosperity that does not require new infrastructure at present. “What the state already has is sufficient. What is needed is proper utilisation of resources,” he said.
Launching a sharp attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, Deb alleged that the ruling party is deliberately obstructing BJP programmes. “Mamata Banerjee came to power by staying on the streets against the CPI(M). Today, the same strategy is being used against us,” he said. He alleged that BJP leaders and supporters are being denied permission to hold rallies in open grounds.
Referring to the venue of the rally, Deb said the party was forced to address the gathering in a paddy field. “Paddy fields symbolise the hard work and struggle of our farmers. We are proud to stand here and raise our voice for farmers and the poor who are being deprived of their political and social rights under this oppressive regime,” he added.
