Bengaluru, July 23:
Panic gripped Bengaluru’s busy Kalasipalya bus stand on Wednesday after an unattended bag containing explosive materials was discovered outside a public toilet on the premises.

Acting swiftly on a tip-off, Bengaluru Police recovered six gelatin sticks and multiple detonators from the bag found at the overcrowded Kalasipalya Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus stand. The explosives were discovered around 2 p.m., packed separately inside a carry bag left near the public toilet.

Confirming the incident, DCP (West) S. Girish said, “Six gelatin sticks and some detonators, both separately packed, were found in a bag near the toilet on the BMTC bus stand premises.” He personally visited the site and is overseeing the ongoing investigation.

A case has been registered under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, Sections 6(A) and 9(B) of the Explosives Act, and Sections 61(1)(a) and 61(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The FIR, filed by Assistant Traffic Superintendent (ATS) Mallappa R. Katiimani, names an unknown adult male as the accused.

According to the FIR, the bag was initially spotted by security personnel Prabhvathi and Raju around 1:15 p.m., who handed it over to the ATS. Suspecting the contents, the ATS immediately alerted the police, who confirmed the presence of explosives and secured the area.

Kalasipalya is one of Bengaluru’s most densely populated and communally sensitive areas, and the discovery has sparked serious concern among residents and security officials. The police have launched a full-scale investigation to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for planting the explosives.

The scare comes just a week after over 40 private schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats via email, creating panic among parents and school authorities. Authorities are on high alert across the city.
