Agartala, March 30: Tension prevailed in the Shuddhachhara area under Teliamura police station late Sunday night after allegations of illegal trade triggered a violent confrontation among residents, leaving one person critically injured.
According to local sources, the trouble began when villagers attempted to resist alleged unlawful activities that had reportedly been ongoing in the locality for some time. What started as a protest soon escalated into a heated altercation, culminating in a violent attack.
An individual identified as Abhijit Das allegedly assaulted a neighbour, Dipal Das, using a sharp weapon. The victim sustained severe injuries in the attack, sparking panic among residents.
Locals immediately rushed Dipal Das to the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital for emergency treatment. However, as his condition deteriorated, attending doctors referred him to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital in Agartala for advanced medical care. His condition is reported to be serious, and he remains under close medical supervision.
As news of the incident spread, fear and tension gripped the area, with residents expressing concern over rising lawlessness. Police personnel from Teliamura police station promptly reached the spot and managed to bring the situation under control, preventing further escalation.
The Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura police station confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is currently underway. He stated that legal action against the accused has been initiated and assured that strict measures will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
The incident has left the local community deeply shaken, with many residents voicing anger over the alleged illegal activities that reportedly led to the clash. Villagers have urged the administration to take firm and immediate action to curb such unlawful practices, warning that failure to do so could result in further disturbances.
Community members emphasized the need for increased police vigilance and sustained enforcement efforts to restore a sense of safety and prevent recurrence of such violent incidents in the future.
