Agartala, May 30: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday reviewed the prevailing weather conditions in the state as heavy rains continued to batter several districts. Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey, along with other top officials, attended the high-level review meeting.

Briefing the media, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey confirmed that one youth, identified as 16-year-old Tanmoy Debnath of Mandalpara, Sachindranagar Colony, drowned in Jirania Sub-Division under West Tripura district.

According to the damage report, a total of 106 houses were affected—33 severely and 73 partially—due to continuous rainfall. Four relief camps have been set up in West Tripura and Khowai districts, currently sheltering 207 people from 57 families.

Pandey stated that following IMD warnings, the state government issued advisories to all District Magistrates and key departments on May 28 to ensure immediate preparedness. NDRF, SDRF, and trained community volunteers with equipment have been placed on standby across all districts.

Road connectivity was disrupted in several areas, including Panisagar, Longtharai Valley, Jampuijala, Jirania, Mohanpur, Sadar, Karbook, and Sabroom, due to uprooted trees and broken electric poles. All routes have since been cleared with the assistance of SDRF, TSR battalions, Forest Department, and local volunteers.

The State Emergency Operation Centre is closely monitoring real-time water levels in coordination with the Water Resource Department and Central Water Commission.

The Revenue Secretary urged residents to stay indoors during heavy rainfall and avoid riverbanks and low-lying areas.

According to the IMD’s 1 PM update, a depression over Bangladesh is expected to weaken over the next 12 hours. However, Red Alerts remain in place for North Tripura and Unakoti districts, with Orange Alerts for other parts of the state until 8:30 AM on May 31.
