Agartala, July 24 — Member of Parliament and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has urged the Centre to allocate additional funds to expedite the completion of the Agartala Light House Project (LHP), one of six such projects across India under the Global Housing Technology Challenge.
Deb met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, on Thursday to review the project’s progress and push for early completion. During the meeting, Deb highlighted the importance of the housing initiative for Tripura and underlined that additional funding is crucial to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Taking to social media after the meeting, Deb wrote, “This project, one of only six Lighthouse Projects across India, will provide housing to 1,000 families in Tripura. I have urged the Hon’ble Minister to allocate additional funds for its timely completion.”
The Agartala LHP, located in the capital city, is in an advanced stage of construction. The project features earthquake-resistant homes built using New Zealand’s innovative steel frame technology. Designed to provide affordable and resilient housing, the project is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U).
The Lighthouse Project in Agartala is a significant step toward modernizing urban housing infrastructure in the Northeast, using sustainable construction practices. Once completed, it is expected to serve as a model for similar projects in disaster-prone and resource-constrained regions.
Deb, who has been actively following up on the project’s progress, reiterated his commitment to ensuring better housing for the people of Tripura and stressed that the state’s development remains a top priority.
