Agartala, Aug 18 – Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Command, along with senior officers of the Assam Rifles, met Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha at the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIFT) in Agartala on Monday.

During the meeting, Lt. Gen. Tiwari briefed the Chief Minister on the overall security situation in the state, particularly along the Indo-Bangladesh international border and adjoining areas. The discussions also covered issues of coordination between security forces and the state administration to strengthen counter-insurgency measures and border management.

The Eastern Command chief highlighted the Indian Army’s and Assam Rifles’ continuous efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Northeast while extending humanitarian support to civilians through community outreach, health camps, and disaster response initiatives.

Chief Minister Saha appreciated the role of the Army and Assam Rifles in safeguarding Tripura’s borders and ensuring internal security. He also lauded their contribution to social welfare activities, especially in remote and tribal-dominated areas, where the forces often provide essential services in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of strong civil-military relations in addressing emerging challenges such as cross-border infiltration, smuggling, and other illegal activities. The Chief Minister assured full cooperation of the state government in facilitating security operations and in strengthening peace-building initiatives.

Lt. Gen. Tiwari, who recently assumed charge as GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command, is on a tour of the northeastern states to review operational preparedness and interact with key stakeholders. His visit to Tripura reflects the Army’s commitment to both national security and the welfare of people in the border state.
