Srinagar: April 25: A gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, officials confirmed . The encounter occurred in the Kulnar Bazipora area after security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on intelligence inputs indicating the presence of terrorists.

The operation was initiated early in the day when troops, acting on credible information, surrounded the suspected hideout. As the search intensified, the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security personnel, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire. The forces responded effectively, engaging the militants in a sustained gun battle.

According to initial reports, intermittent firing was ongoing as the forces tried to neutralize the terrorists. The area has been cordoned off completely to prevent any escape and to ensure the safety of civilians. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the spot to support the operation and ensure that no collateral damage occurs.

The identity and number of terrorists involved have not been confirmed yet, and there have been no reports of casualties from either side at the time of this report. However, officials stated that the operation would continue until the area is declared secure.

Bandipora district, located in north Kashmir, has witnessed sporadic incidents of militant activity in recent years. Friday’s encounter underscores the continued presence of armed militants in the region and the ongoing efforts by security agencies to eliminate threats and restore peace.

Security forces have been conducting regular anti-terror operations across the Kashmir Valley, especially in areas where inputs suggest terrorist movements. The latest operation in Kulnar Bazipora is part of these larger counter-terrorism efforts aimed at maintaining law and order in the Union Territory.

Further details are awaited as the operation progresses and the situation continues to evolve.
