Bengaluru: BJP Yuva Morcha National President and MP Tejaswi Surya hailed the recently concluded 56th GST Council meeting as a “historic reform” that will directly benefit the poor, farmers, small entrepreneurs, and the common man.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Jagannath Bhavan, Surya recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address from the Red Fort, where he had promised radical reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system. “Yesterday’s announcement by Union Finance Minister is a clear reflection of the Prime Minister’s vision to simplify taxation and support those who form the backbone of our economy,” he said.

According to Surya, the new GST slab introduced in the Council meeting was a unanimous decision, supported by all states, with the aim of streamlining the tax structure and removing complexities. “This reform is not just a technical change. It is a major step toward empowering small and medium businesses, self-employed youth, and MSMEs,” he emphasized.

He explained that the revised structure will make compliance easier, cut down on repetition, and provide much-needed relief to small manufacturers and entrepreneurs. This, he added, would help reduce operational burdens on industries and encourage greater participation in the manufacturing sector.

“The biggest beneficiaries of this reform will be farmers, common households, and youth entrepreneurs who drive innovation in small businesses. MSMEs and factories under the new regime will see substantial support, ensuring job creation and growth,” Surya noted.

He expressed confidence that the reforms will open a new chapter in India’s economic journey by boosting manufacturing, creating employment, and strengthening grassroots businesses.

Bangalore South District President and MLA C.K. Ramamurthy, along with Legislative Council Member K.S. Naveen, were also present at the press conference.
