In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics smuggling, police in Damcherra apprehended two suspected drug peddlers from Mizoram late Wednesday night and seized a substantial quantity of heroin. The operation, carried out by a special team from Damcherra Police Station, was based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of contraband in the region.

According to police sources, the team received a tip-off that a number plate-less scooty would be used to transport heroin towards Panisagar. Acting swiftly, officers set up an ambush at Narendranagar and maintained surveillance for nearly two hours. Their vigilance paid off when the suspected vehicle was finally spotted. The scooty was intercepted and thoroughly searched in the presence of senior officials.

During the search, police recovered eight soap cases containing a total of 92.8 grams of heroin. In addition to the contraband, an Android mobile phone and the scooty used for transportation were also seized. The estimated market value of the recovered heroin is believed to be between ₹8 lakh and ₹10 lakh, highlighting the scale of the smuggling attempt.

The two accused have been identified as Benjamin Tripura and Lalmohan Kima, both residents of Mizoram. Senior officers, including the DCM Panisagar and SDPO Panisagar, were present during the operation, underscoring the coordinated effort and seriousness of the crackdown.

Following the seizure, an मामला has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused are set to be produced before the court for further legal proceedings. Police officials stated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the duo is part of a larger trafficking network operating across state borders.

Authorities have emphasized that the successful operation reflects their continued commitment to tackling drug trafficking and maintaining law and order in the region. With cross-border narcotics movement posing a growing challenge in the Northeast, such targeted actions are seen as crucial in dismantling supply chains and preventing the spread of illegal substances.
