Agartala, Nov 18 — A high-level review meeting was convened at the State Secretariat on Tuesday to assess key operations of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. The session, chaired by Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, brought together senior officials and district-level representatives to evaluate ongoing initiatives and chart improvements in service delivery.

The meeting focused primarily on strengthening the Public Distribution System (PDS), which plays a critical role in ensuring food security for lakhs of beneficiaries across Tripura. Officials discussed the current status of supply chains, stock availability, and the timely distribution of essential commodities. Special emphasis was placed on addressing logistical gaps and enhancing coordination among field officers to prevent delays.

Consumer rights and protection also formed a major part of the agenda. Minister Chowdhury stressed the need for strict vigilance to curb unfair market practices and ensure that consumers are not subjected to adulteration, overpricing or fraudulent services. He highlighted that safeguarding consumer interests is central to the department’s mandate and called for improved grievance-redressal mechanisms.

The implementation of welfare schemes linked to food security—including those targeting vulnerable and low-income households—was also reviewed. Officials assessed the effectiveness of current monitoring systems and explored ways to introduce more transparency, including the use of digital platforms to track distribution and reduce leakages.

Minister Chowdhury urged all officers to work with diligence, accountability and coordination, noting that the department’s duties directly impact both food access and public trust. He reiterated that seamless cooperation between state headquarters and district administrations is essential to delivering quality services.

The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving public service delivery, expanding the reach of welfare programmes, protecting consumer rights and ensuring that essential commodities reach even the most remote corners of Tripura in a timely and transparent manner.
