Agartala, July 23: In his first official visit to Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) University since taking office, Tripura’s Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman conducted a comprehensive inspection of the campus on Wednesday, marking the beginning of his initiative to review all higher education institutions in the state.

During the visit, Minister Barman engaged with university officials to assess the current academic environment, infrastructural facilities, and the progress of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening Tripura’s higher education system, saying, “My sole objective since assuming charge has been to uplift the department and improve its infrastructure.”

Barman informed that a recent departmental review led to the decision for him to personally visit all colleges and universities under the State Higher Education Department. MBB University is the first institution covered under this initiative aimed at identifying challenges and developing tailored improvement plans.

He also emphasized the historical importance of MBB University, named after the revered Tripura monarch, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, calling it a symbol of pride for the state.

The minister interacted with students during the visit, listening to their concerns and aspirations. Addressing media questions about alleged fake fee cards during admissions at Ramthakur College, he confirmed that a probe has been launched. “I’ve already spoken to the department’s director and secretary. A team has been formed and a report has been requested. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” Barman said.

Regarding MBB University’s expansion, Barman revealed that three more state colleges have been brought under its jurisdiction as per decisions taken during the recent budget session. He also indicated that additional colleges currently under Tripura University may be shifted to MBB University based on its future development.
