Agartala: Jan 18: On January 15, Chief Minister of Tripura, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss a critical issue concerning the India-Bangladesh international border. During the meeting, the Chief Minister submitted a letter detailing the complete information about the alleged illegal embankment construction near the Kailashahar border in the Devipur area, which is close to Sharifpur in Bangladesh’s Sylhet Division.

The issue came to light following concerns raised by local legislators and residents regarding the construction of a high embankment in the border region, which was believed to be originating from the other side of the border in Bangladesh. The embankment’s construction raised fears of potential flooding and its impact on the border areas. The Chief Minister’s letter to Amit Shah highlighted the specifics of the alleged project and its proximity to India’s border, emphasizing its potential risks to the local environment and security.

This meeting marks a significant step in addressing the border-related issues between India and Bangladesh, especially concerning the construction activities that may affect the international boundary. The Chief Minister’s proactive approach reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of Tripura’s border areas.

In response, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated. He emphasized that the government would take appropriate measures to ensure that no such construction activities would jeopardize the security and safety of the Indian territory. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), will continue monitoring the situation closely to prevent any potential violations of the international border agreements.
