Kailashahar, July 20: Tension has gripped Kailashahar after a youth was brutally stabbed near the Forest Office area in an incident linked to ongoing disputes over human trafficking. The victim, identified as Rukon Uddin, sustained serious injuries to his head and body after being attacked in broad daylight.
According to local sources, Rukon had been in conflict with a group of youths in the area over alleged human trafficking activities. Despite filing a formal complaint with the Kailashahar police station, no arrests have been made even after a week, sparking widespread anger in the community.
Seeking justice, Rukon approached local Congress MLA Birajit Sinha on Sunday for assistance. Strongly condemning police inaction, the MLA warned that if the accused are not arrested soon, the Congress party would launch a larger movement and, if necessary, call for a 24-hour bandh in protest.
Sinha also stated that he would inform the Chief Minister and senior police officials in writing regarding the issue and the deteriorating law and order situation in the region.
Local residents have alleged that the absence of a permanent Officer-in-Charge (OC) at the Kailashahar police station has led to a rise in criminal activities, allowing offenders to operate with impunity. Many expressed concern that law enforcement is failing to act decisively in cases involving serious allegations like human trafficking.
With public confidence in the police waning, all eyes are now on the administration to see how swiftly it acts to restore law and order and bring the culprits to justice. The incident has reignited debates about police accountability and the urgent need for stronger enforcement mechanisms in sensitive areas like Kailashahar.
