A newly constructed Girls’ Hostel at Sonarbasha in Dharmanagar was formally inaugurated on Friday by State Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, marking a significant step toward strengthening girls’ education and empowerment in North Tripura. The project, developed under the Ashok Singhal Seva Project, reflects a collaborative effort between social organizations and government leadership to enhance welfare infrastructure in the region.

In his address, Minister Roy highlighted that the initiative drew inspiration from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and was brought to fruition through the humanitarian contributions of Sadhak Ratnamani Seva Sadan. He said the hostel symbolises a meaningful stride in promoting educational access, safety, and holistic development for young women, especially those coming from underprivileged and remote areas of North Tripura.

Emphasizing the need for secure residential facilities for girls pursuing education away from home, the minister stated that such service-oriented projects play a crucial role in building confidence and ensuring dignity for students. He noted that safe accommodation forms the backbone of women’s empowerment, allowing them to study without fear or obstacles, and contributes to the state’s vision of inclusive and balanced development.

Minister Roy added that the inauguration is not just the opening of a building but a milestone in community-driven progress. It stands as a testament to the combined efforts of social organizations, philanthropists, and the state administration in uplifting the future of girls in Tripura. He urged stakeholders to continue working together to create nurturing environments that enable girls to excel academically and socially.

According to project authorities, the newly built four-storey hostel has been completed at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 2 crore. The building is equipped with four spacious hall rooms, 20 warden rooms, and 16 toilets, ensuring modern and hygienic amenities for residents. Designed to accommodate around 120 girl students, the facility aims to provide safe, comfortable, and well-organized housing that supports both educational growth and personal development.

The hostel is expected to become a vital asset for the region, offering opportunities for girls to pursue higher studies without the constraints of travel, financial burden, or safety concerns. With improved access to residential facilities, education for girls in North Tripura is likely to receive a significant boost, fostering long-term social advancement and empowerment.
