Agartala, Oct 13 (PTI) Gandhigram Higher Secondary School in Tripura's West Tripura district organised a Mathematics Fair on Tuesday, showcasing 90 models aimed at making the subject more interesting and helping students overcome their fear of mathematics.

The students presented models based on various mathematical concepts, drawing the attention of guests, teachers and parents through their creativity, innovative ideas and enthusiasm for practical learning.

Sadhan Kumar Nag, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the office of the District Education Officer, West Tripura, attended the programme as the chief guest. The event was also attended by the chairman and vice-chairman of the School Management Committee, Headmaster Rupan Roy and other guests.

The programme was presided over by the school's Assistant Headmistress, Chumki Chakma.

Addressing the gathering, Nag highlighted the importance of mathematics in education and everyday life. He said the subject was not limited to formulas and calculations in textbooks but had applications across various aspects of daily life.

He appreciated the students' efforts to explain mathematical concepts through models, saying their exhibits reflected creativity and an interest in practical learning.

Nag expressed hope that such initiatives would help students develop logical reasoning, problem-solving abilities and self-confidence. He also observed that the event might be the first Mathematics Fair of its kind to be organised in West Tripura district.

The participating students enthusiastically explained their models to visitors, demonstrating mathematical formulas, concepts and their practical applications in simple and accessible ways.

The exhibits reflected the students' imagination, hard work and eagerness to explore the subject beyond classroom lessons. The active participation of students, supported by their teachers, added to the educational activities at the school.

Headmaster Roy thanked the teachers and students for their collective efforts in organising the event. He emphasised the need to conduct similar educational programmes in the future to nurture students' intellectual abilities, talent and creativity.

In her presidential address, Chakma stressed the importance of enjoyable and effective teaching methods in students' overall development. She expressed hope that the fair would help remove their apprehension about mathematics and encourage them to develop a genuine interest in the subject.

The programme was conducted by Joy Ghosh, a postgraduate teacher (PGT) at the school.

The initiative sought to promote hands-on learning and encourage students to explore the practical relevance of mathematics in everyday life.
