Agartala, Oct 22 :Agartala is gearing up for the much-awaited ‘Maayer Gomon’ puja carnival on Friday, with puja committees, artists, cultural performers and foreign delegates expected to participate in the colourful celebration of Durga Puja.

Chief Minister Manik Saha will inaugurate the carnival at a ceremony in front of MTB Girls’ Higher Secondary School. Members of the state cabinet, senior government officials and other distinguished guests are also expected to attend the programme.

Mayor Dipak Majumder said various puja organisers and clubs would participate in the event, providing a common platform to showcase their artistic creations and celebrate Tripura’s cultural heritage.

The carnival is being organised not merely as a religious procession but as a cultural platform highlighting Sanatan values, the state’s rich traditions and contemporary social messages, he said.

Participating puja committees are expected to present creatively designed tableaux, idols and thematic displays reflecting different aspects of society and culture. Alongside traditional elements of Durga Puja, the presentations will highlight messages of social harmony, unity, environmental awareness and responsible citizenship.

The procession and accompanying cultural programmes are expected to draw residents and visitors, creating a festive atmosphere across the city as Goddess Durga is given an emotional farewell.

A significant feature of this year’s carnival will be the participation of foreign delegates and representatives of various embassies. Their presence is expected to provide an opportunity to showcase Tripura’s artistic traditions and cultural diversity before an international audience.

The event is also expected to promote cultural exchange and highlight Agartala’s potential to host large-scale cultural programmes rooted in tradition and inclusivity.

Local artists and performers will play a key role in the celebrations, presenting traditional and contemporary cultural expressions. Their participation will offer a platform to showcase local talent and reflect the diverse cultural identity of Tripura.

The Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the carnival, focusing on coordination with participating puja committees, cultural programmes and the overall presentation of the event.

Last year’s carnival brought together faith, tradition, art and social awareness, reflecting Tripura’s cultural identity while marking the emotional farewell to Goddess Durga.

With preparations nearing completion, the event is expected to turn Agartala into a vibrant showcase of devotion and cultural creativity.
