AGARTALA: CPI(M) State Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury announced on Saturday that the party will place democracy, citizen services, and accountable governance at the forefront of its campaign for the upcoming municipal elections.
Addressing reporters, Chaudhury stated that while detailed poll preparations were temporarily delayed due to the recent village committee elections, the party is set to mobilize in a united and structured manner.
Critiquing the current state of urban infrastructure, Chaudhury argued that cities encompass social and cultural life alongside basic amenities. He alleged that over the past eight and a half years, Tripura’s urban environment has sharply deteriorated. Despite claims of heavy public expenditure, key infrastructure—including roads, drainage, and civic facilities in Agartala and other towns—remains severely neglected, causing frequent waterlogging even after light rainfall.
Chaudhury further alleged a rise in political and socio-economic disturbances, claiming citizens face extortion and commission demands for routine tasks like land transfers, home repairs, or purchasing construction materials.
"Our campaign will focus on showing people how to overcome this situation and establish a democratic, transparent, and accountable civic administration," Chaudhury added.
