Agartala, September 26:
Jharna Debbarma will continue as Chairperson of the Tripura State Commission for Women (TCW) for another three years, following a formal reappointment order issued by the Tripura government.
The Education (Social Welfare & Social Education) Department issued the notification on September 25, 2026, extending Debbarma’s tenure with effect from September 24, 2026. Her reappointment has been made under Section 6(iv) of the relevant Gazette Notification and the Tripura Commission for Women Rules, 2008, which prescribe the service conditions of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and members of the Commission.
Alongside the continuation of the chairperson, the government has also reconstituted the Commission by filling three existing vacancies. Sujata Deb, Megha Paul (Chowdhury) and Mampi Das have been appointed as members for a three-year term, beginning from the date they assume charge.
The appointments were notified by the Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura. Copies of the orders have been forwarded to the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and senior officials of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, among other concerned authorities.
The latest order provides continuity at the top of the women’s rights body while adding three new members to its composition. The Commission is mandated to address issues concerning women’s rights, welfare, safety and empowerment and to take up matters affecting women in the state.
Debbarma’s continuation, along with the appointment of the new members, will allow the Commission to proceed with its ongoing responsibilities while incorporating new members into its functioning.
The reconstituted Commission is expected to continue its work on women-related issues, including grievance redressal, awareness, welfare and outreach, as it carries out its statutory responsibilities across Tripura.
