Agartala, September 24: The Neermahal Jal Utsav 2026 will be held at Melaghar from October 7 to 9, bringing together cultural programmes, traditional sporting activities and tourism initiatives centred on Neermahal and the picturesque Rudrasagar Lake.

Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman reviewed preparations for the three-day festival during a meeting at the Melaghar Municipal Council conference hall on Thursday. He took stock of the arrangements and directed the officials concerned to ensure that all necessary preparations are completed on time.

The festival will feature a variety of cultural and sporting events, with programmes based on Mansamangal, boat races, swimming competitions and yoga among the activities planned for the occasion.

Barman said the Jal Utsav also serves to underline the close relationship between Rudrasagar and the communities living around it. According to the minister, the lake and its surrounding ecosystem have remained closely connected with local livelihoods, customs, folk traditions and everyday life.

The event will further focus on promoting Neermahal as an important tourism destination of Tripura. The historic water palace, set against Rudrasagar Lake, will provide the backdrop for programmes highlighting the region’s architectural legacy as well as its cultural and natural attractions.

Organisers expect the festival to draw visitors from different parts of the state and beyond. Cultural performances, traditional competitions and the scenic setting of Neermahal are expected to be among the major attractions of the three-day event.

Barman appealed to people to attend the festival with their families and experience the cultural heritage and natural surroundings of Neermahal and Rudrasagar.

The annual water festival has become an important platform for promoting tourism while providing space for local cultural traditions and community participation, alongside efforts to highlight the historical and ecological significance of Rudrasagar.
