Agartala, Oct 12 :The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organised route marches across all eight districts of Tripura on Sunday to mark Mahalaya as part of year-long programmes commemorating the organisation's centenary, according to a press statement.
In Agartala, 997 volunteers participated in the march, while another 121 people were engaged in support duties. The procession began at Pragati Maidan at 3.30 pm, passed through several parts of the city and returned to the starting point.
The Agartala march was divided into two groups to cover different routes before converging at a common meeting point. The first group proceeded through Durga Chowmuhani and Ker Chowmuhani before reaching Colonel Chowmuhani.
The second group moved westwards along Pragati Road, passing Haradhan Sangha, North Gate and Bidur Karta, before reaching the same location. The two groups subsequently marched together back to Pragati Maidan, bringing the programme to a close.
The procession featured the RSS's traditional musical unit, known as the Ghosh band. Volunteers marched in coordination with the accompanying musical instruments, adding to the organised proceedings, the statement said.
Addressing participants at a session following the march, RSS Tripura Prant co-publicity in-charge G Kannan spoke about organisational discipline, regular participation in shakhas, character-building and social responsibility.
He emphasised the importance of self-discipline, physical and mental fitness, and regular practice in developing individual character. Participation in organisational activities, he said, could foster a sense of duty, mutual cooperation and the ability to work collectively.
Kannan also highlighted unity within Hindu society, the preservation of cultural traditions and active participation in social life. He stressed the importance of working for the wider community and remaining prepared to support society whenever required.
The route marches formed part of a broader series of programmes planned in Tripura to commemorate the RSS centenary. The proposed activities include Hindu conferences, youth conferences and gatherings of prominent citizens.
The programme also includes an initiative to conduct shakhas on the largest possible scale over seven consecutive days, the organisers said.
According to the statement, these initiatives are intended to engage different sections of society and encourage greater participation among young people. The simultaneous marches across all eight districts were organised to highlight discipline, coordination and collective participation.
Founded in 1925, the RSS is marking its centenary through programmes across the country.
