Agartala, Oct 10: Three youths from Tripura have secured jobs as machine operators with Balmer Lawrie in Dubai after completing a state-sponsored skill development programme, highlighting the potential of vocational training in opening up international employment opportunities.
Abhoy Debnath, Sanjit Das and Ripan Das obtained the overseas placements after successfully completing training under the Mukhya Mantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP) at the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in Agartala, officials said.
The three candidates underwent 80 days of specialised training, comprising 480 hours of instruction, to prepare for employment in the industrial sector.
Following their selection, the youths are expected to receive an average starting salary of Rs 65,000 per month. Their monthly earnings could increase to Rs 96,000 after six months, depending on their performance, according to the information provided by the authorities.
The placements mark an achievement for Tripura's skill development initiatives, which seek to equip young people with industry-relevant competencies and improve their access to employment opportunities.
The programme is aimed at helping candidates develop practical skills that can be applied in professional workplaces, enabling them to explore career options beyond their home state and the country.
An official said the selection of the three youths demonstrated how targeted skill training could help young people access employment in the international job market.
The official added that the placements could encourage more aspiring candidates to enrol in vocational training programmes and pursue careers in industrial and technical fields.
The Directorate of Skill Development considers the achievement significant for the state's efforts to connect trained candidates with suitable employment opportunities. The overseas placements are also expected to motivate other youths to acquire specialised skills and explore career prospects outside Tripura.
For the three selected candidates, the opportunity in Dubai represents a step towards building careers in the industrial sector while gaining exposure to an international work environment.
The development also underscores the importance of linking skill development initiatives with employment opportunities, particularly for young people seeking careers in technical and industrial occupations.
The successful placements are expected to strengthen awareness about vocational training as a pathway to employment and encourage more youths in Tripura to pursue industry-oriented courses under state-supported initiatives.
